Branched Oak State Recreation Area
One of the largest parks on the Salt Valley Lakes, with a tranquil lake setting that is quite picturesque and unrivaled within the state, Branched Oak State Recreation Area has everything from full hookups to free showers, restrooms, dump stations, and even a playground.
The park has both pull-through and back-in options. Campers are always pleased to be within proximity to the attractions, including the Nebraska State Capitol, Lincoln Children’s Zoo, Sunken Gardens, and the Museum of American Speed. Guests can enjoy activities such as archery, swimming, hiking, wildlife viewing, fishing, water skiing, horse trails, and boating.
Apart from being a great vacation place to get up-close with nature, it’s also an excellent spot to camp with a total of 338 sites that all have both 30 amp and 50 amp electrical hook-ups. Area 1 and Area 4 have the most paved RV pads and are the most excellently positioned to enjoy the nine different public spaces.
Mormon Island State Recreation Area
Located in southern Nebraska, Mormon Island acted as a winter stopover used by emigrants heading westward, and it is from this that the recreational park is named. The park is a part of Nebraska’s ”Chain of Lakes” and is open all year round. You will find it a short drive away from the city of Grand Island.
Grand Island is home to attractions such as Island Oasis Water Park, the Crane Trust Nature & Visitor Center, and Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer. Guests can enjoy a more intimate setting as there are a limited 34 sites in this park, surrounded by nature in every direction.
Offering modern camping facilities and restrooms, Mormon Island State Recreation Area provides electrical hookups, a shower building, and a laundromat. Outdoor activities at Mormon include boating, fishing, kayaking, picnic areas, stargazing, swimming in the lake, and hiking. This RV campground is Nebraska’s flagship RV camping site along I- 80.
Holiday RV Park & Campground
Located in North Platte, in the southwestern part of the state, along the famous I-80 interstate is Holiday RV Park & Campground. This RV campsite is close to some of the topmost RV dealerships in Nebraska. Additionally, the facility is within proximity to some of the state’s most popular attractions, including the Golden Spike Tower, Cody Park Railroad Museum, and Alpha Omega Labyrinth.
They are open all year, and amenities include a sparkling on-site pool surrounded by large and grassy sites, which are all pull-through. The sites are so big, guests don’t even have to unhook trucks for the night. The park is also nearby Buffalo Bill Historical Center and North Platte, the place Bob Greene wrote about in “Once Upon a Town: The Miracle of the North Platte Canteen.”
Grand Island KOA Journey
If you are looking for a quiet, shady country park surrounded by countless farm fields, then Grand Island KOA Journey is right for your family RV trip. It is located near I-80 so campers will never feel like they’re far away from civilization. It’s also a well-known facility for hosting those tourists that come to witness the annual bird migration in Spring.
History lovers will be happy to know that it is a short distance from the famous Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer. There is always plenty of on-site sporting activities and an option to rent out the pedal bikes. The facility has a large dog park on-site and is surrounded by cornfields and lots of trees.
