As RV owners, we’re always on the lookout for beautiful places to camp. In the south-eastern part of the United States, North Carolina has hundreds of scenic locations.
The entire region is lovely all year round. We can visit anytime to enjoy the many excellent campgrounds the Tarheel State has to offer.
It’s a land of culture and history. There’s an adventure for everyone with natural landscapes such as beaches, rugged mountains, and woodlands.
Many of North Carolina’s best RV parks are on or near the coastline, which is an attraction for seafood lovers and anglers. We can golf, fish, hunt, or visit historical sites. There are also many tourist attractions, including the Great Smoky Mountains and Wright Brothers National Memorial.

From experience, here’s my choice of some of the best campgrounds in the ‘Old North State’ in no particular order.
Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park
This family-friendly park is near the South Carolina border. It’s one of North Carolina’s best-kept secrets because of its seclusive location on a quiet farm in Tabor City.
As it’s also close to Myrtle Beach and Wilmington’s port city, there are lots of sites to visit. Guests who prefer to remain on the grounds will have relaxation and fun. The facility caters to all ages.
There are amenities such as mini-golf, activity pool, waterslide, and sporting facilities. Those who enjoy being outdoors can fish in the ponds, explore the hiking trails, and much more.
Stone Mountain State Park
This park attracts many tourists each year because of the very famous Stone Mountain. Outdoorsmen love it because of the many biking and hiking trails.
We can also go for nature walks, rock climbing, horse riding, and fishing. Visitors will enjoy the view of the summit’s granite dome; it’s massive.
A short, 30-mile drive away is New River State Park, Elk Knob State Park, and plenty of recreation places.
Although the campsite is one of many, RVers prefer this one because there are water and electricity hookups. The facility also has picnic tables, campfires, and grills. Other pluses are the handicap access ramps, dump stations, and bathhouses throughout the site.
Stonebridge RV Resort and Campgrounds
Stonebridge Campgrounds, settled on the Jonathon River, is part of the Great Smoky Mountains of Western North Carolina. It’s located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Since 1965, the campsite has been a quality vacation spot. There’s WiFi to keep guests connected to their family and friends. The facility has amenities campers need, such as a pool, fire rings, restrooms, showers, and laundry rooms. The resort also has a community center that’s perfect for functions.
Vacationers can enjoy the site’s peaceful atmosphere and the picturesque view of the mountain range. Outdoor activities include exploring the National Park or fishing on the river. The property’s shaded sites are ideal for a leisurely walk.
Camp Hatteras RV Resort & Campground
This RV campsite is on the scenic Hatteras Island in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The facility is set on 50 acres and neighbors the Pamlico Sound and the Atlantic Ocean.
With over 50 miles of beachfront land, vacationers can explore the area and visit their famous lighthouses. The region is also home to the Wright Brother’s National Memorial, Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge, and Jockey’s Ridge State Park.
The resort is family-friendly and has lots of amenities. Its utility hookups include cable TV and WiFi. Guests can chill out at any of the three pools or jacuzzi. There’s miniature golf for those who want a relaxed way to pass the time. The more active individuals can play tennis and basketball.
Camp Hatteras also has a recreation director who plans activities for kids. Parents need not be concerned with their children being bored while they indulge in more adult pursuits.
With five bathhouses and four laundry rooms, there’s no issue of overcrowding. Holidaymakers can also use the kitchen at the clubhouse and get supplies from the general store.
New Bern KOA
Another highly-rated RV campground is in New Bern, on the banks of the Neuse River. The city is the second oldest in North Carolina and is the birthplace of Pepsi Cola.
There are notable sites such as the Tryon Palace Historic Sites & Gardens and the Firemen’s Museum for history buffs.
The KOA has excellent amenities such as bathrooms, showers, and laundry rooms. The campsite can accommodate RVs up to 128 ft long and has utility hookups that include WiFi and cable TV.
The quiet setting makes the camp a perfect retreat for those wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The 100-foot pier is ideal for fishing or watching a beautiful sunset. Campers can rent kayaks and paddle boats to get out on the water.
There’s even a playground with a jump pad and swing set for kids.

My list of the best RV campgrounds in North Carolina is by no means exhaustive. I’m sure there are many more from the over 400 sites in the state, but it’s a great starting point for RV enthusiasts visiting these parts of the country.
