Best RV Campgrounds in Connecticut

Are you planning an RV trip? Consider Connecticut a charming state where urban meets the countryside, encapturing the picturesque charm of yesteryear.

Located in the southern part of New England, Connecticut holds a breathtaking beauty. Dotted with coastal beaches, quaint little towns, and memorable hiking trails. It’s a nature lover’s playground, and there’s fun-packed entertainment for families. Worth a mention is the tranquil fishing spot for those searching for serenity.

A state renowned for its beautiful RV friendly camping spots, you’re spoilt for choice. Here are a few of my favorites to help you narrow down your pick for that perfect getaway.

Countryside RV Park, Griswold

Settled amongst the undulating natural countryside of eastern Connecticut near Providence, Rhode Island, this RV park features peaceful and pristine grounds. Situated in Griswold, it’s close enough to urban life for a quick getaway but remote enough to feel like you’ve escaped it all.

The 108 RV sites with views of the lawns and pond are nice and roomy and hook up to electricity and Wi-Fi. The owners here help you settle in. Guests can swim in the sparkly clear pond and dry off on the home-made beach. Fishing is allowed as long as you catch and set them free.

Grab a bike and head off on one of the many biking trails. The kiddies can busy themselves with playgrounds, basketball, and horseshoes. If you venture out, you can visit the Mystic Aquarium or go for a stroll within one of the glorious state parks.

Witch Meadow Lake Family Campground, Salem

This Campground set in southeastern Connecticut boasts a 14-acre freshwater lake. Water fans can take a morning plunge in the water or explore it via hydro-bikes or paddle boat.

Witch Meadow Lake Family Campground

A serene 140-acre wooded parkland, this campground is well organized. There are laundry facilities and an onsite store. You won’t need to venture out if you don’t want to unless it’s to experience one of the many miles of hiking trails.

Activities are endless with tennis, basketball, pinball, heated swimming pool. Even your dogs have a pet walking trail. Take a visit to the quaint town of Salem. Picnic at the Gardner Lake Park with a boat on tow for traversing the dam.

Beaver Pines Campground, Woodstock

Beaver Pines borders the magnificent 7,500-acre Nipmuck state forest. You can spend a large part of your holiday wandering 25 miles of natural trails. Or bring your mountain bike to immerse yourself in the terrain.

Beaver Pines Campground

Beaver pines have large wooded campsites; they can be a bit tricky to navigate with your RV, but I’m sure you can rise to the challenge. It has the usual access to Wi-Fi and electricity, while the enthusiastic owners are happy to help and regularly host pot luck dinners.

For fun, you can play lawn games, cards, or bingo and the whole aura of the place is one of pure relaxation. Guests can fish or kayak in Griggs pond and be sure to keep an eye out for the resident beaver.

While in northeastern Connecticut, why not pop into one of the local vineyards. Drop-in at the Stafford Motor Speedway car racing track for a bit of fast action.

Lone Oak Campsites, East Canaan

Lone Oak is ideal for the family RVers wanting hoards of activities to keep the children happy, offering themed weekends and family-friendly events, including DJ nights and kids only dances.

Lone Oak Campsites

The 250-acre campsite in Northwestern Connecticut rests amongst the Berkshire foothills at the Canaan Mountain base.

There are 469 campsites of undisturbed woodland or sunny spots in the field. You can pick up essentials or order tempting sandwiches from the deli. Lounge around the pool area dipping in the two large swimming pools set against a majestic Berkshire mountain range.

Wind down in the hot tub and enjoy some serious star gazing. A short car drive takes you to local restaurants or onwards to river tubing or kayaking.

Rocky Neck State Park, East Lyme

This one is for the laid back beach lover. Based on Long Island Sound in East Lyme, this 710-acre park is one of the most popular. It appeals to seasoned RVers due to its expansive beach and glistening waters.

Rocky Neck State Park

Scattered in the park are cozy picnic spots where you can revel in the beautiful surroundings. There are 160 wooded and open sites but note there are no hookups available. Guests can enjoy a BBQ and build a fire in the designated fire rings.

Varied walking trails offer easy walks to Tony’s Nose, Bakers Cave, and the salty marshlands. Remember your binoculars for sightings of osprey and fish eagle, or opt for a little night fishing.

Final Verdict

Connecticut is an experience and should feature in every beginner or dedicated RVers bucket list of places to visit.

Enveloped in beauty, charm, and a nature lover’s dream, you can sample all terrains amidst picture-perfect scenery.

Leave those highways behind for the charming narrow roads of old.
